WHO
nyko est diplômé du Master Production et Réalisation de Film Documentaire à l’Université Marc Bloch de Strasbourg en 2003. Cette même année, il co-écrit et réalise le documenteur LA YUMBINE ET RIEN D’AUTRE qui remporte le 1er Prix de l’Opération Rush d’Arte.
À la fin de ses études, il part s’installer à Londres où il travaille pendant cinq ans comme assistant caméra et lumière sur des tournages de courts, longs métrages, publicités, clips, documentaires, etc. En parallèle, il écrit, produit et réalise, plusieurs courts métrages et clips diffusés dans les festivals ou à la télévision.
En 2013, avec son frère Yan, ils tournent à Newcastle (UK), DICK LORENT, un thriller psychologique tiré d’une histoire vraie, qui aborde la question de la peine de mort. Le court métrage est nominé pour les Golden Awars au festival Cinesonika de Vancouver, puis reçoit le prix du Meilleur Montage au festival du Film Maudit, à Paris.
L’année suivante, nyko et Yan filment, sur 3 continents (Thaïlande, Bolivie et France), le clip WOO HOO (You’re So) pour le groupe de musique Jesus is my Girlfriend.
De retour en France au printemps 2015, ils s'installent à Paris et font la rencontre de Brigitte Fontaine. Séduite par leur proposition farfelue, l’artiste française missionne les deux frères de réaliser le clip de PARTIR OU RESTER, la chanson qu’elle co-interprète avec Philippe Katerine.
nyko et Yan partent en Inde filmer le kushti, une pratique ancestrale et spirituelle qui voit des lutteurs combattre dans la terre rouge, eux-mêmes enduits de terre. Le film/clip est projeté à la Fête de l’Humanité, puis remporte le prix de Meilleur Court-métrage Documentaire International à l’Alternative Film Festival de Toronto.
Une collaboration avec la danseuse Louise Soulié amène ensuite nyko à la réalisation d’un premier vidéo-danse, sur le thème de la déforestation. COUPÉ DU MONDE est projeté au Théâtre National de Bretagne dans le cadre du festival Ciné-Corps, et au Regard du Cygne, à Paris, lors des Journées Européennes du Patrimoine 2019.
En 2020, c’est une comédie politique sur le partage, LA FABRIQUE DES RÊVES, qui reçoit le Grand Prix du Jury au festival Takavoir de Niort.
Et en 2021, le film COEUR DE SUCRE remporte les Prix du Jury, Meilleure Comédienne, Meilleur Comédien et Meilleure Image au 48h VJC du Cinemed.
nyko développe actuellement une série documentaire sur sa mère, et plusieurs projets de films, documentaires et de fiction, autour des problématiques des violences policières, le conditionnement et la peur de la marge, et la question palestinienne.
nyko is graduated from the Master Documentary Film Direction and Production at the University Marc Bloch of Strasbourg (France) in 2003. This very same year, he co-writes and directs the mockumentary LA YUMBINE ET RIEN D'AUTRE, which is awarded the Arte Operation Rush 1st Prize.
After graduating, he moves to London where he works for several years as a camera and light assistant on film shoots (shorts, features, music videos, commercials, documentaries, ...). In the meantime, he founds 51 Prod. where he writes, produces and directs several short films and music videos screened at festivals and broadcasted on TV.
In 2013, together with his brother Yan, they shoot in Northern England DICK LORENT, a psychological thriller based on a true story, which deals with the topic of death penalty. The film is nominated to the Golden Awards at the Cinesonika festival in Vancouver and receives the Best Editing award at the Film Maudit festival, in Paris.
The following year, nyko and Yan travel through 3 continents (Thaïland, Bolivia and France) to film the video WOO HOO (You're So) for the rock band Jesus Is My Girlfriend.
Spring 2015. Back in Paris, they meet Brigitte Fontaine. Seduced by their harebrained idea, the French artist commission them to direct the video for TO LEAVE OR TO STAY, the song she co-interprets with Philippe Katerine .
The two brothers fly out to India to film Kushti, a spiritual and ancient practice where wrestlers fight in red pit, themselves covered in dirt. The film is screened at the Fête de l'Humanité, and then receives the Best International Short Documentary award at the Alternative Film Festival in Toronto.
Then, a collaboration with the dancer Louise Soulié brings nyko to direct his first dance video on the theme of deforestation. COUPÉ DU MONDE is shown at the National Theatre of Brittany during the Ciné-Corps festival, and at the Regard du Cygne in Paris, for the European Heritage Days 2019.
In 2020, it is a political comedy on the concept of sharing, LA FABRIQUE DES RÊVES, which receives the Jury's Grand Prize at the Takavoir festival in Niort.
Then in 2021, the film COEUR DE SUCRE wins the Jury's prize, Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Picture at the 48h VJC Cinemed.
nyko is currently working on a documentary serie on his mum, and several other film projects, documentaries and fictions, around the issues of police violence, conditioning and the fear of standing out in the margin, and Palestine.

Si pour certains 51 est immédiatement associé (ce que nous pouvons comprendre) à une populaire marque d'apéritif anisé, pour nous c'est une nouvelle manière de faire du cinéma.
Que ce soit un film de fiction, un documentaire, un clip ou une pub, ce doit être :

51 arguably is a well known (and delicious) brand of anise-flavored liqueur from the South of France, also called Pastis, but for us it is a unique way of making films.
Whether it is a fiction film, a documentary, a music video or a commercial, it has to be:

Arno n'est plus très frais lorsqu'il rentre d'une soirée passée à transpirer sur les beats du Catch. Francis est au lit avec 39 de fièvre. Arno enfile un chapeau mexicain attrape un oreiller et pénètre dans la chambre de Francis. La caméra le suit. 51 est né.

Arno isn't so fresh anymore and comes back home after a sweaty night spent dancing at Catch. Francis is asleep with a 39 degrees fever.
Arno puts on a Mexican hat, grabs a pillow and enters Francis' room.
The camera follows him in. 51 is born.
WHY
Parce qu'hormis le goût pour les tournages nocturnes (qui nous ont certes coûté quelques amis), nous croyons à un cinéma qui questionne autant qu'il divertit.
Un jour à un festival de films en Pologne, un journaliste a demandé à Terry Gilliam pourquoi il cherchait constamment à faire des films différents de ceux faits par les autres cinéastes.
M. Gilliam de répondre : ''Il faudrait plutôt se demander pourquoi les autres font tous la même chose''.
Because not only we like to film waking up feverish friends at night (yes, we did lose a couple of friends because of that) but we also believe a film should entertain and question at the same time.
One day at a film festival in Poland, one journalist asked Terry Gilliam why he always aimed to do complicated films, different from those of his filmmaker mates.
